What is the purpose of a film opening? (BP5)

The sole purpose of a film opening is to grab the audiences attention in the first 5 minutes. It is the most precious moment of the film because it is the moment when the crowd becomes an audience and the time that decides whether they are going to enjoy watching the film or not. It is equivalent to a trailer because a trailer has to grab the audiences attention in order for them to feel curious and excited about the film to go watch it. The film opening is described as the most precious moment of the whole film as it is the part that seduces the audience into a long term commitment to the film.

The director Patrice Leconte said that the film opening is the most magical moment of the film and that the people have placed their trust in you and they have come to watch your show so in order to pay them back the film opening has to be particular in order to keep their loyalty towards the film going.
